Cariad Cakes was formed back in 2002 in Ludlow, Shropshire. Now based on the Welsh borders, the company, set up by local husband and wife team Kay and David Fletcher, create unique artisan cakes, completely handmade and baked to perfection.
The strong ethical stance of the company and the desire to use only the best locally sourced ingredients ensures that all cakes are 100% vegetarian-friendly, with an ever-increasing range that already includes Rich Lemon & Sultana Fruit Cake, Zingy Lemon Madeira and Chocolate Heaven Cake.
The company has since won several international Great Taste awards presented by the Guild of Fine Food Retailers. Our Shropshire Hills Cake, White Star Fruit Cake and Shropshire Raspberry & Honey Cake are all major award winners. The Silver Award winner was our Gluten & Wheat free Orchard Plum & Ginger cake, which was also shortlisted for the Free From Awards.
Our Raisin Ginger Cake won a prestigious 2 star Gold Award in the 2009 Great Taste Awards, while our Gluten Free Chocolate Fruit Cake was Shortlisted for the Free From Awards. 2012 saw the launch of our unique All Day Veggie Breakfast Cake (possibly a first for the UK) while our Hereford Apple Cider Cake took another Gold at the 2014 Great Taste Awards. In 2017 Cariad Cakes were awarded Best Dietary Cake Company (Wales) in the Trade Food & Drink Awards together with the MANPACK Global Manufacturing Award for Best Dietary Cake Bakery South West. Cariad Cakes was nominated as Bakery of the Year in the 6th Food Awards England.
Now with exclusive dairy-free, sugar-free and gluten/wheat free lines, Cariad Cakes are available from fine food stores and delicatessens across the country. They can also be found at selected food festivals and by mail order direct from this website.
